Our farm is nestled in the middle of farmland in Northern Michigan.
We are surrounded by maple trees (imagine that from the Maple Leaf Farms name, huh?). We celebrate all four seasons with spring being my favorite and fall being Dan’s favorite. I love spring because everything is new again after Michigan winters, and Dan loves fall because of the smell in the air and the wonderful colors we have.
We have 40 acres with 19 acres in hay, some of it is in woods, some for pasture and the rest is used for perennials and vegetable gardens. We have around 100 goats, pigs, meat chickens, laying chickens, 2 cats, and a ‘few’ kittens!
Another project we have started and love is having our own honey bees. They are such an amazing creature. Dan does all the care and three times a year we spin out the honey, put it in containers, and sell it. It is so fun and so good. Our honey is not processed, which means it hasn’t been heated. If it crystallizes, you set the container in a pot of warm water and it will come back to its liquid form.
We teach cheese classes, we make rich creamy fudge from goat’s milk, and wonderful natural goat’s milk soap. Our soap is fun and is made in molds to look like the animals from the farm. We also offer a workshop twice a year called goat farming 101. This is a class to not only learn more about how to take care of goats, but we also talk about living more self-sufficiently on your own land. If you don’t have land, we show you good places to get the healthy food that you need.
We’re also proud to announce we’ve recently been MAEAP approved!
Thanks for visiting, and have a great day!
